What "One-Time Purchase" Usually Means
A one-time license almost always covers the software you buy, not everything the company ships later. Before you pay, check four things:
- Which updates are included. Some licenses include every update; others stop at the current major version, and the next one is a new purchase or an upgrade fee.
- Which features are subscription-only. Several editors keep new AI tools, stock libraries or cloud features for subscribers, even on a "lifetime" license.
- How many computers it activates on, and whether you can move it to a new PC.
- Whether it needs the internet to start, to export, or to keep working.
If all you need is a full timeline editor and you're on a budget, the free version of DaVinci Resolve is hard to beat, and Shotcut and Kdenlive are lighter free options.
